Lehi Hebraic Definition

The name Lehi means ‘to life’. The L is the Hebrew letter Lamed and stands for the preposition ‘to’.The letter h in Lehi is the Hebrew letter Chet. The name Lehi is L’Chai in Hebrew which means ‘to life’. L’Chai and his vision of the Tree of Life is about the Word of YHWH (Jehovah)which is His gospel, the eternal Torah.

In Lehi’s vision of the tree of life [1Nephi 8:19-38/RLDS 2:62-91], there is an iron rod which leads men along the narrow path, through the darkness to the tree of life.

And I beheld a rod of iron; and it extended along the bank of the river, and led to the tree by which I stood. And I also beheld a straight and narrow path which came along by the rod of iron, even to the tree by which I stood; and it also led by the head of the fountain, unto a large and spacious field, as if it had been a world; And I saw numberless concourses of people; many of whom were pressing forward, that they might obtain the path which led unto the tree by which it stood. And it came to pass that they did come forth, and commence in the path which led to the tree. And it came to pass that there arose a mist of darkness; yea, even an exceeding great mist of darkness, insomuch that they which had commenced in the path, did lose their way, that they wandered off, and were lost. And it came to pass that I beheld others pressing forward; and they came forth, and caught hold of the end of the rod of iron, and they did press through the mist of darkness, clinging to the rod of iron, even until they did come forth and partake of the fruit of the tree….”

In 1Nephi 11:25/RLDS 3:68-69 and 1Nephi 15:23-24/RLDS 4:38-40], the Book of Mormon says that the rod of iron is the word of God (YHWH):

“And it came to pass that I beheld that the rod of iron, which my father had seen, was the word of God (YHWH)……..”, “…what meaneth the rod of iron which our father saw, that led to the tree?…and I said unto them that it was the word of God (YHWH)…” The Book of Mormon says that if we ‘…search the scriptures diligently, we might know the word of God (YHWH)…’ Alma 17:2/RLDS 12:2-4.

Isaiah 2:3 says that “….the Torah will go out from Zion; and the Word of God (YHWH) from Jerusalem…”, and that the Torah will proceed from me, making His judgments rest for a ‘light’ of the people [Is 51:4]. This means that the rod of iron represents the Torah of YHWH and not clinging to the rod of iron leads us into ‘darkness’. [1Nephi 8:23/RLDS 2:67].

The rod of iron that leads us to the tree of life is the renewed covenant instruction ‘Torah’ of Yahushua! The Gospel is the ‘word of truth’ (Colossians 1:5). The Gospel is to be obeyed (2Thes. 1:8). The Gospel is the message that Yahushua taught (Matt 4:23). In fact, it is a message He taught in the Temple (Luke 20:1). Matt. 4:12-17 says that this message was the ‘light’ of Isaiah 8:23-9:1-2.

If we read Isaiah 8:20, we see that this ‘light’ is Torah: To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Please listen to the beautiful talk about deception of the last days and the Rod of Iron, by Jeffrey R.
